In writing this article I am hoping to bring awareness on a rather serious issue dealing with BellSouth. Plus, it's been a while since I've written an article. Anyways, on to the discussion...

BellSouth accounts have two logins for the account. The public access login (the password that the user uses to log in to their account), and the private access login (the password that bellsouth uses to configure the account, billing information, and all that fun stuff). Now, when an account is cancelled, it is not necessarily wiped off the face of the earth. It's just simply inaccessible through the public access login. Now, BellSouth, being the geniuses that they are, set all the private login passwords fairly identical. The password for which being either 'hotline' or 'hotlined'. Therefore, to exploit this security issue, you could sign up for a bellsouth account, never pay your bill, and then when it's cancelled you won't lose your access and won't have to pay a cent for the service. Have fun...

Note: First off I'd like to thank my friend Onyx for helping me out. Secondly, I'd just like to announce a new phreaking article that you can expect to come around fairly soon. It will cover more updated methods of phreaking (since an updated phreaking guide has definately been long overdue). So you all can look forward to that. Anyways, until next time... =)

If you have any questions or comments and feel the need to reach me then you can do so at i_azazel_i@yahoo.com and I will try to get back with you as soon as possible.
