Anybody ever used them? I've seen them on think geek for 50-100 bucks. I'm considering getting one, but I want to know if there is a cheaper option for them or if they are actually any good.

LED light bulbs are less efficient than CFL's.

CFLs are less efficient than CCFLs.

Pity CCFLs are not on that list.
LEDs: 13%
Fluorescent: 15%

Yeah but CCFL aren't great at lighting a room. They are more limited to lighting up your sign, or your computer case.

What makes you think that? There are CCFLs powerful enough to light rooms. When they are wound into a spiral like a CFL they emit light in nearly all directions.

Yeah but I can't imagine it is very efficient at lighting a room in any way that ou'd want for normal usage...
LED light bulbs are less efficient than CFL's.
LED's use way less power and last a shitload longer... LED>>CFL.

Yes they last longer, but;

i have led's in my car tail lights and am replacing my daytime running lights and turn signals later with leds
the benefits have been instant on, and alot less power consumption, and they will last forever compared to cfl's. cars like the audi r8 use leds for the head lights and tail lights. although on my last audi a4 my ballasts on my xenon headlights were the original ones, and still as bright as day one at 100k miles.
the only downside is that individual ones dont have a good light dispersion pattern, so it comes down to how well the bulb is designed, for my drl, it uses a 19 led design with the majority facing forward, and the rest making a ring around it. for cars, led bulbs aren't much more expensive than regular ones, and no cfls are used because of the startup time.
dude LED's are like two dollars

Generally yes, LEDs are the way to go, but as was stated by red_eye_wonda it depends on how they are set up. Always research the how the bulb settings are. What most things people don't mention is that even though CFLs are said to last longer then florescent, what isn't mentioned is they don't always last as long as written on the box, usually you get about 1/3 more time, but at the same time, compared to LEDs, they're much more expensive. A lot of times you can get conversion kits to for your flashlights that use actual bulbs, you can see the difference there for usually cheap as well.
