View Full Version : alternative fuel sources
what kinds of alternative fuels are there other than gas/oil. i saw something saying that hemp could be converted into a alt fuel but havent seen much else.
anyone enlightned enough to share a few examples?

The guy has a point, if we put big brother on a huge wide screen TV we could probably make people run in hamster wheels for hours before they noticed anything.

I read somewhere that like a 100 acre(if not less) field of solar panels(with our current efficiency, which really sucks) would be able to produce enough power for the world.
Then make everything electric. And Voila, no more fucking problems.

Thats interesting. Maybe after Iraqs oil drys up we can level the place to use for this.

A better place would be in Republic of Congo. Right through the Equator.

Ethanol, butanol, and ester chains as a stopgap until wind, hydro, and solar mature. Those would be stopgaps until fusion is figured out.
Why don't we just grind up all niggers and throw them into a cars gas tank? I mean they are the same color as oil and stuff, amirite??

Yeah, that doesn't sound right.
Most solar cells operate at 12%-15% efficency, though we do have new ones that work at over 40%
Will come back with specific stats on area/output tomorow when I'm back at my own computer and can read pdf files.

Calculus. U-235. Also, whoever said that thing about the solar panels was a fucking retard. Solar panels can get 200W per square metre at maximum efficiency, and then you have to consider the amount of sunlight at different times of the day/year. You'd need a pretty fucking large area.

This.
maybe the guy meant 100,000 acres? I don't know much about solar power but 156 square miles of solar panels sounds reasonable

If we can make plastic cups out of corn, we can make a fuel source that does not require buying new cars.

This is what I was basing myself on, it's been a long time since I've read it.
http://www.ez2c.de/ml/solar_land_area/
100 acres is nothing, you're right.
It's around 224,870 acres at around 8% efficiency.

I heard of ethanol and of the hemp. I think ethanol is the best solution, but I'd like to see hemp though.

There are plenty. The problem is that none of them can be scaled up to the monumentally unsustainable levels of consumption we've become accustomed to and they can only replace a fraction of the energy that we're getting from oil at best.

The problem with that is, Fidel castro is a limited resource.
We don't need fuels. Become farmers again. Forget technology. Feed yourself with the food growing in your region.
And forget governments. Make every city or village it's own state.

oh yeah, that'll work. Until someone gets some guns and becomes the dictator of the world
Yeah, but form where should he get the guns? If nobody was producing them, and if there were absolutely no modern technology, and if we would just use our hands and tools made out of wood or bone for working, there would be no way how to get guns.
The even better solution would to become hunters and gatherers. Of course, the amount of human beings would have to be reduced.

so how would be get everyone in the world to forget about technology and become farmers again? I don't really know what you're saying. That's like saying the best way to solve the fuel problem is to destroy the world and everything on it.

I am implying that the problem isn't the lack of fuel, but everything related to modern technology. The individual person can't be independent in our society. He needs fuel, he needs electricity, he needs to buy food, he needs all kinds of stuff. Getting independent again would be the goal.

being independent would be great but going back to tribal hunter gatherer societies wouldn't exactly be a step forward.
Is there a need for a step forward when a step backward would do a better job?

jet fuel and nitrous oxide, if its good enough for million dollar drag cars it must be good enough for my 91 ford laser
also can you power a car on strait nitrous oxide, if not mixed in with a little propane just so it gets in there easier...
MmMmMmm... propane....

Nitroud oxide alone is non flammable, Im pretty sure you'd have to use it in combination with a solid fuel or a liquid or gaseous oxidizer.

It'd have to be used with some other fuel source, the nox is the oxidizer.
