To Help the enviroment.

I catch the bus more often and take shorter showers, but thats about it, and Im pretty sure that it wont reduce the hole in the ozone or reverse the drought.

Discuss.

I bought my house about 6 months ago..its a few blocks from each 3 of my workplaces so I don't need to drive anymore.

Each yeah my work promotes "National Tree Day" and give out a bunch of trees for free to residents, and sell a heap to farmers.

The other year we bought my dad a 'proper' composting bin and he is currently growing a whole lot of things including beans, carrots, potatoes and tomatoes.

A few other things - I've tried to talk to our national environmental minister and PM but alas they only say they care about things.

I walk to work instead of drive...

And instead of buying a new car I drive an old one (remember that making cars puts out more CO2 than driving a used one for a few decades, especially with how high-tech cars have become)

And I don't use plastic bags, and I try my best to find products with minimal packaging

i have installed off the grid energy systems, taking advantage of solar, and hydro. I also drive a four cylinder vehicle, and I turn off appliances, and lights if I do not use them. oh, and i recycle to get my 5¢ deposit back.

I bus or bike when I can. Use gas appliances rather than electric (more efficient). Replaced most bulbs with compact fluorescents (they're no good for anything with a dimmer switch).

I was out mapping some areas of a catchment and documenting what problems it is facing as part of my degree - i do alot of shit like that, calculate impacts on the environment (human and natural) and then try to do things to make them positive changes.

I do plenty to carry my carbon weight, but just the way our society functions theres alot that you dont havea say in.

My taxes dont do much for the environment, which is the governments fault - the same people who are being pushed to take baby steps while the general public asks how can they start running to the goal.

I try and grow some of my own food, but i live in a city and i live in an apartment - you cant grow an adequate food supply on an apartment balcony, and everytime you buy shit from a shopping centre your supporting the machine that churns through energy and creates unneeded waste - i dont care how free range your chicken is or how organic that tomato is they are still being grown on land that gets cleared of trees to be more productive and trucks haul that shit around and giant stores churn through power.

I ride my bike whenever i can to get around, take short showers, dont eat meat but its an uphill battle.

I work at a green power company, im doing a degree to help people embrace the changes we need to see and i do things myself.

I really want to get back into generating carbon credits, i worked at some places that did that a few years ago - and it is a cash cow.

I never owned a car, and never will. This of course, has pushed me out of one crowd, and a few job oppurtunities I'm sure (just one the other day actually). I don't mind taking the bus, a lot of people think they'll meet "skeevy" people on the bus, but nowadays I realize everyone is skeevy, theyre your co workers, your schoolmates, your relatives, friends, bosses, etc. They're at every job, every party, and every carnival you go to. Financial status doesn't always determine the way one thinks. I learned to not give a fuck over the years, and take a cab if I absolutely need to.

I make it a life's goal to maintain physical discipline in weightlifting and running, while eating basically meat-free foods. Lots of fruits and veggies.

I dont buy anything. AN-Y-THING. I have all I need, all I want, and am content with where I am right now :). I try to waste very little and make the most out of life today.

Hate to break it to you, but for every one person who takes full responsibility for themselves and makes conscious choices, there are 5 billion others who do what everyone else does. So it doesnt matter. But Im sure mother nature will deal with it in her own way.
