The pro has a faster processor, comes with more RAM standard (I think), a bigger HD, and has a better graphics card - hence the "pro".

Peace.

Maybe you should go to the official Apple website and look for yourself, it spells it all out for you.

Plus the Pro is up to $900 more

Ive been to apples website and seen the differences. I just dont know what they really mean performancewise.

Then you are obviously too stupid to use a computer.

Up to 2.16GHz versus 2.4GHz - Means its faster.

1GB RAM versus up to 4 - Can process more data at one time

128MB Graphics versus 256 - Faster graphics processing.

Look at the other extras such as backlit keyboard, larger screen for pro etc.

Performance wise the Pro is faster/better............lay enough?

I might be messing around but its not spam. I really have a dilemma here about a very expensive purchase I'll be making very soon, therefore, not spam. Now ive decided to go with the macbook pro, but I'm not sure which. The school recomends the second least expensive one but i was looking at the least expensive mbp. I suppose the better graphics on the more expensive one is probably why they recommend it seeing as how i need it for video editing. I think the real issue here is, is it worth it for me to get the better one for $500 more, keeping in mind ill have access to all the editing stuff i really need anyway. but i've heard one of apples selling points is that they last longer so it could be really good if im using it for 8 or 9 years.

The least expensive unit in the current line will probably be more than adequate, you'll only see a marginal increase in performance with the next models up. You can't expect anything to last 8-9 years; Apple does not last longer than comparable PCs, so don't make that a factor in your decision. Performance is relative to the applications you run. 3 year AppleCare service is another $349 on top of the base price, and make sure you go through academic channels as to get the lowest price possible.

The 15 inch is probably your best bet.

Really though, next time one of these threads comes up (someone asking what kind of computer to get), please tell us what you're going to be doing with it. That helps a lot more. The only reason I'm reccommending the 15 inch MBP, is because the screen is more than big enough to handle video editing. And, well, MBPs are better for video editing.
