View Full Version : Philadelphia Experiment
So who thinks this is real?
Couldn't it feasably be possible that in the attempt to make the ship invisible by bending light it could've teleported? Isn't the basic idea of time travel is that you would have to be able to travel faster than the speed of light, of somehow bend it?

To Philadelphia, Philadelphia.
what?
"bending" light doesn't happen. it is simply refracted a number of times. light travels in a straight line. even in a fiber optic cable.
and i don't know where you got the idea that bending it would make it travel faster. does a car increase velocity just because you go round a corner?

The Philadelphia Experiment used a large photon bombardment on the entire body of the ship, along with other as yet unknown devices. These scientists had just realized the value of a moving device which has no mass, and which, when transmitted, appears at the departure and destination point simultaneously, with no elapsed travel time used.
The idea was to make the ship appear at two places at once, which was confirmed by the Port Authority radar station. If the ship could be in two places at once, this would open up a wide variety of military advantages. The enemy would not know which ship was the real one.
The ship that appeared at the other end of the transmission was not just an image, but an exact physical replicate of the original, existing at two places at once, complete with identical crews. If one of the ships was destroyed, the other identical ship would still remain to wage battle and retaliate, and enemy radar would show two identical ships hundreds of miles apart.
But the scientists did not calculate for the differences of the properties between flesh and metal, so some of the crew's bodies got stuck between both places, by the misfortune of the minimal but resulting shift variation that occured within the influence of the anomaly. Sailors were reported to have been found planted into the ship's bulk-heads, standing waist deep and stuck in the ship's flooring, or disappeared entirely. Some that did successfully survive the transmutation went stark raving mad, most likely because during that short experiment, there were two of that person, and reality as we know it does not like to accommodate perfect identicalness in a world based and designed on the concept of variety. Most likely, this sudden duality caused a safeguard in reality to be triggered, where the minds of the travelers' brains were affected much like a germ cell is attacked by a white blood cell. Other sailors on that fated ship were reported as seen drinking in a bar one moment after the experiment, and then disappearing into thin air, right in front of several onlookers. This was no doubt the residual effects of whatever the experiment delivered.
In any case, the feds decided there was much too much culpability involved in a process that was found to be much too unreliable at present. They decided more tax dollars should be spent to research it further in secrecy. Today, all these kinds of experiments are conducted in the coldness and seclusion of space, away from the prying eyes of the general public.

i remember reading that they tried to create an ultra powerful magnetic feild around the ship, to bend light around it (i know light doesnt "bend", you know what im talking about) to make it appear invisible.
i wouldnt be too surprised if some crazy shit started to happen if you generated an unstable and super powerful magnetic feild around something. i dont know about time travel, but i could see it fucking with everythings atomic structure and fusing people to the ship.

you know, that was all complete jibberish. it is complete fantasy science with no grounding at all in reality.

There is some great reading on what these scientists were working on, and since they were just learning that all matter is actually composed of particle waves, they no doubt had a few improvements on the tests.
http://instruct.tri-c.edu/fgram/web/quantum.htm
The seemingly impossible really happens:
(Back to the double slit later.) Nature defies common sense, and this really happens: an electron or other particle can disappear in one location and simultaneously reappear at another location if the wave associated with the particle extends to the other location. After you buy that, we can make sense out of the rest of it. Here are some examples of the disappearing-reappearing magic:
* Tunneling. An electron does not have enough energy to penetrate through a barrier, but if the wave of the electron exists on the other side, there is a probability that it will disappear on one side and reappear on the other side. Measurements show that the distance divided by time is greater than the speed of light, so it is not a case of traveling through- it really disappears and reappears simultaneously. The tunnel diode and the scanning tunneling microscope make use of this effect.
* Optical tunneling. For example light that enters the prism as shown is totally reflected at the diagonal. But if the other glass (the rectangle) is placed close enough, much closer than in the picture, some light enters it. The laws of electricity and magnetism do not permit the existence of light in the gap, since 45o is greater than the critical angle of glass, but photons can disappear in the prism and reappear in the rectangular solid.
* Radioactive decay. An alpha particle does not have enough energy to escape the nucleus, but under the right conditions it can tunnel out, much like in the above cases.
* Electron transitions in atoms. If an electron absorbs a photon it gets kicked up to a higher energy level, or it can give off a photon and drop to a lower level if one is available. These transitions are instantaneous- another disappear- reappear case.
* This property of nature is so pervasive that even in totally empty space, particles pop in and out of existence. This is known as the vacuum polarization, so called because they appear as equal and opposite charges, a dipole.

Well Wikipedia says they accidentally teleported, creating dual entities, exact copies of the ship and all that was on it...
Kinda fucked up, but I'd like to be a part of this kinda research, not onboard, hell no should anyone be on the thing, this kinda military advantage should be used only for unmanned vehicles, existing twice can/will fuck a person up.
Testing began in summer 1943, and was successful to a limited degree. One test, on July 22, resulted in the Eldridge being rendered almost completely invisible, with some witnesses reporting a “greenish fog” in its place. However, crew members complained of severe nausea afterwards. At that point, the experiment was altered at the request of the Navy, with the new objective being invisible to radar only.
Equipment was not properly recalibrated to this end, but in spite of this, the experiment was performed again on October 28. This time, Eldridge not only became almost entirely invisible to the naked eye, but actually vanished from the area in a flash of blue light. Simultaneously, the US naval base at Norfolk, Virginia, just over 600 km (375 miles) away, reported sighting the Eldridge offshore for several minutes, whereupon the Eldridge vanished from their sight and reappeared in Philadelphia, at the site it had originally occupied in an apparent case of accidental teleportation.
The physiological effects on the crew were profound. Almost all of the crew were violently ill. Some suffered from mental illness as a result of their experience; behavior consistent with schizophrenia is described in other accounts. Still other members were physically unaccounted for— supposedly “vanished”— and five of the crew were allegedly fused to the metal bulkhead or deck of the ship. Still others were said to fade in and out of sight. Horrified by these results, Navy officials immediately cancelled the experiment. All of the surviving crew involved were discharged; in some accounts, brainwashing techniques were employed in an attempt to make the remaining crew members lose their memories concerning the details of their experience.
Lol.
Skills to pay the bills!

...existing twice can/will fuck a person up.
It would take a strong mind and strong will to hold it together.
could you handle seeing/hearing/feeling from two different perspectives at the same time? Possibly, but it would be incredibly strenuous. Our minds are not really built for such a thing...
Not to mention that no one can say what effect it would have on our other dimensional selves being the multidimensional beings that we are...
Also suppose that they jumped the 4th dimension (time).
In order to imagine this, you must think of it as a dimension like the previous three... Imagine time as an infinite flat space (dimension two), there is no sense of time, just an infinite range of north south east or west. You could also try imagining it as a 3rd dimensional space, but also realize that the 4th dimension would be as more intricately complex as the 3rd dimension is to the 2nd dimension.
So now, since we view time as a linear forward moving dimension from here, a mere second here is enough to fit an infinity of infinity's of traveling the 4th dimension into.
Now, what would happen to your mind if you were suddenly exposed to the great expanse of the 4th dimension for what could be considered an eternity and a nanosecond all at once before popping back to "reality"? If you manage not to go insane, you are a greater man than most.
and speaking from experience, the future is not always a pleasant thing to see...

It seems to me most of the stuff surrounding the philadelphia experiment is just rumors.
If there was a way to do these things then scientists, such as the ones in the above article, would know about it by now ( especially with 50 years of technological growth since then behind them as well).

that reasoning is insufficient. Go do a lot of reading on the technology Nicola Tesla invented. That shit is FAR beyond what we have now. Because his "free energy" was unprofitable, we are using the power sources we do now.
Same with the cure for cancer. They have it, or at least something that dramatically fights it, but because of the cheapness of the drug, they will not manufacture it. It yields such small profit in comparison to what they charge for their Chemo Therapy and other such things now...
I'm not sure how cloaking technology would be "unprofitable", but I merely wish to point out the flaw in that logic.

God damn it. I came into this thread looking for an entertaining conspiracy theory to pass the time at work. I get intrigued by what is presented in this thread, so I wiki the Philadelphia Experiment. Long story short... I just learned M-Theory, its 11 dimensional spacetime and 4 brane components, the 2 brane collision Big Bang Theory, and what Albert Einstein spent the last years of his life failing at. Thanks a lot jerks. If I wanted to learn shit like this, I would have continued onto graduate school instead of getting a job in industry.

the magnetic field that was created around the philidalphea is created around ALL ships i believe... its called "degaussing" and it is done so mines do not detect the ship as readily.
I do think something happened here, but the fact is, we will never know, and all documents that would tell us are either destroyed or will simply never be revealed.

Degaussing just neutralizes a B-> field. That would only make the ships invisible to a radar ping. The Philadelphia Project is about making the ship physically invisible by neutralizing the white light from at least the UV-Vis spectrum around the ship. To achieve this one would have to... least say:
The visible light reflecting off of the ship towards an observer is in a sin(x) with a wavelength of y. To mask this light from an observer a -sin(x) with a wavelength of y would be required. Whereas, the gaussian cloaking can simply be achieved by a field of spiral electric waves surrounding the ship. This would cause a magnetic field to "bend" around the ship causing similar fields coming towards the ship to catch the riptide caused by the "bending" magnetic field instead actually bouncing off the actually ship. Vice Versa, due to the electromagnetic relationship.

1. Light's path can be bended by gravity.
2. Newton's Second Law states that objects that change direction accelerate. That's probably where he got the idea of the car.
I remember reading this hue book about the experiment. It seems somewhat plausible that for a moment the ship and the people just floated around within the vortex around the ship. Everyone would have been dead though, probably at the very moment the ship disappeared they all froze in place. However, one thing that is sketchy is how bodies were found lodged into the ships hull. That's just really weird.
yeah, good point on the gravity thing.
i assumed he meant that it feels like you go faster when you take a turn in a car so therefore you must have accelerated. ah well.

Imagine, if crew members were actually stuck in the bulkheads, and according to many witnesses, they were, that would mean the feds managed to shift atoms inside time and space. And if that is the case, which I think it was, we can only boggle our minds contemplating what these jokers have come up with in the last 60 years.

See, what happened here in the Philly experiment is that the gooks from the federal department, gooks from national defense, and more gooks from the scientific community, all got together with a whole lot of the tax payer's money, pooled all their technology and resources jointly, and came up with this magnificent plan to attempt to teleport a very large ship, complete with crew. The test was not to cloak the ship, although that is actually a secondary result of the experiment; they already had good methods to accomplish that. This conglomerate of gooks had much bigger aspirations than that. The ability to teleport in the heat of battle, or as an incursion to invasion, was just too tempting a prize to pass up, and still is!
Obviously, they had already successfully teleported smaller items and objects in the labs, and had finally worked their way up to a test with a fully-manned war vehicle at this point. My firm, educated understanding on this is that there were several technologies involved in this single experiment, which involved photonic entanglent, photonic saturation of the hull and crew, anti-gravity fields, the Hutchison Effect and the use of free energy.
Of course, generating fields and effects of that size is not the same as doing it in a test tube. There were bound to be unexpected developments on engagement of the massive systems. Much like extremely high voltage terminals in certain environments can actually cause spontaneous arcing of several dozens of feet in length, but smaller and less powerful arrays operate smoothly without any arcing.
Once the conglomerate of goons realized that the result of these effects actually worked, but were much too unpredictable, and therefore too dangerous, they opted for more research. This research has been going full tilt since that wrap-up, but in complete secrecy, considering the power of the technology.
Image the ability to teleport a nuclear device directly behind enemy lines without even leaving your bunker, or the cost effectiveness of landing your troops across an ocean in a matter of minutes!
Much too powerful a secret to even do the tests in public anymore. Now each side, the Russians, Chinese, Brits, Germany all have the technology, and each don't want the other to know they have it, and they all keep it a top secret.
But they will use it if it comes to WW3.
There is testing going on right now, with your hard-earned dollars, that is even more unbelievable than this very old technology. Time-freezing" weapon devices, "time-slowing" weapon devices, "time portal" units (this is why we find modern objects embedded in solid rock millions of years old!), free-energy/dark energy devices, anti-gravity units, the whole deal! They have it all, and now test in the secrecy of space and deep underground! I kid you not!
