I have been in here substantially trying to plan studying abroad in the UK. I have decided that studying abroad may be an unnecessary headache, and also I think I would like to see more of the world before being tied down in an entry level job.

So, I saw an episode of a travel show today on Prague and now I would really like to go there. The kind of travel I hope to do is with a backpack on my back and hostels or couches each night, basically ultra low budget.

Just a note, I don't like heavily trafficked touristy areas. Any suggestions off the beaten path would be helpful. I am very interested in history as well, so historical places with beautiful architecture is a plus.

The idea that I have is to fly into Dublin and start east from there and fly out of somewhere in eastern Europe. Would you suggest this, or the opposite?

Also, any information on cheap transportation is appreciated.

I would be flying out of the US via Washington DC.

I forgot to mention that I will have a little over three months to travel during the summer months.

For Transportation get a Eurolines coach pass which is shitloads cheaper than the train alternative. Budget airlines are also useful heres a list that fly out of the UK:

www.skyeurope.com
www.easyjet.com
www.ryainair.com

Off the beaten track places in Europe are few and far between but here some that get less tourists than the rest:

Belarus (Europes last dictatorship)
Modova (Europes only Communist goverment)
Tran-Dniester (break away state)
Serbia
Albania (probably the most dangerous place in Europe)

I'd imagine like must visiters to the Uk u'll spend a few days In scotland. Most toruist spend a couple of days in Edinburgh and then head to inverness. If you want to get off the beaten track and see some "real" Scotland then head to the Hebrides which has a site similar to stonehendge but with no tourists. If you have time and enough money a trip to St Kilda would also be pretty cool.

You say you like history and architecture so visits to various castles would be good, recommended ones in the UK are Edingbrough, Warwick and tower of london(probably the most touristy one).

If your into world war 2 history you can visit normandy where the d-day landings happened, many places to visit around there relating to the landings and best of all, most of the tourists visit only a few select locations (arromanches and the cemetries) so many places are not heaving with them

Amsterdam is a very good choice. Great weed, fine women and overall a beautiful city.

I recommend you stay at a place called camping zeeburg which is cheap.
