Oktoberfest

I'm going to be in Bologna, Italy from 2007.IX to 2008.V or so. I want to go to Oktoberfest during that time... has anyone been there before? If yes...got any advice?

My specific problem right now is that I can't find a place to stay. At least one I can afford. Most hostels are booked, the one's that aren't are $50 per night for the dorms and-- just to show the range: $160 per night for the single rooms.

So... anybody know somebody in Munich, or a way to fucking be at Oktoberfest this year?

I'll be there for Oktoberfest this year. I hear they hate Australians though, because we get the and think we can drink, but we can't drink like them. And you're American, so it'll be interesting to see how they view you.

Thanks, I'll check those two out. I'm not American though, but half-Italian half-Chinese. I didn't seem to have a problem in Germany (and I was in Hamburg when Italy beat Germany) and I want to be there to enjoy the beer, not get drunk. Have you been to Oktoberfest before though?

Wow, strange ethnic mix.

Anyway, no I haven't been. But by all accounts I've heard, it's great and the people are usually very friendly. They've worked out the value of the tourist dollar.
