I'm going with at least one of my friends, I don't know if the other guy(s) are coming.

I was just wondering if anyone else had been there recently, or ever, and if there was anything I should know. I will probably end up living off of instant ramen for the 2 weeks I will be there.

i went when i was like 2 or 3 adn dont remmber.

However, i went when i was 12, and when i was 13, and once again when i was 14.
I highly reccomend against it. There's nothing there. Of course, i had a great time when i was there, cause at that time (im 18 now) i played tons of computer games like starcraft, diablo 2, and coutnerstrike. The pc rooms have awesome rates and awesome computers that kick the crap out of any US cybercafes. I would meet a bunch of cool peopel there and plasy games all day.

BUt if u dont play videogames, there is really nothing to do there.

BTW, are u or ur friend koeran? Because i cant see any reason why a tourist would want to go there.

My boyfriend lived in Seoul for a year in the Army. This is his advice:

Check out the DMZ, there's a tour. Go to Itaewon and ask any military man for a tour of Hooker Hill, go to Yongsong, it's a town around an American military post, go to the Namsang Tower. Check out the college districts.

He said he had a great time in Korea when he was there. From pictures I've seen, he did a lot of drinking. I want to go there with him one day.

Are you korean? If not, expect a lot of staring. Are you short? If not, expect a lot of staring.

Korea was a hellhole the last time I went. This is coming from a very tolerant, very liberal minded person- koreans are so conservative and critical and unaccepting of other people. And it was fucking hot as all HELL. It doesn't help that you have to walk everywhere and people call you "michin yon" (crazy bitch) to your face for wearing skirts that are shorter than your knees.

The only things to do are drink, go to bulgogi places, go karaoke, shop through NamDaemoon and eat bingsu. Most of the girls are ugly, most of the guys dress a bit... questionably. If the girl is pretty, 8 out of 10 times, she'll be a horrible bitch. But I doubt you'll meet any pretty girls. The guys will expect you to follow heirarchy of.. whatever.

The girls are also very catty and mixed messaged. Don't touch them too much or they'll call their oppas and you will get your ass beat by ggangpaes. Be extremely polite.

Check out Busan if you want to meet the scary Russian people who have taken over that area, the last time I visited.

Know the word "yo"- stick it on the end of every sentence and you will be fine amongst all those fucking ... people who demand that you be "polite". Otherwise, you will be called a "ssagaji" and given really dirty looks. (Koreans are the kings of dirty looks.)

And don't eat ramen. There are plenty of awesome food places everywhere. If you're short on cash, go to the tent restaurants or vendors. The food is almost always good.

Of course- it's not all that bad, I guess, if you get used to it. I think it's one of those places that you have to take quite a long time to get used to. Just because they are SO different from Americans or anyone else really. And just a bit hostile. And their sense of humor is really, just jacked up. Some get it, others never do.

This is coming from a Korean raised all her life in America.

I was in Seoul in 2004, and I would have to agree almost entirely with romainiw. Its the least interesting part of Asia to visit. The culture there is fucked, the people are unfriendly, and its alot like a drab North American city. Go to Tokyo instead.

i just went there in janurary with my family to visit relatives.

i stayed with my rich relatives, ate good food.. etc.. in fact i dont recall me ever eating ramen there.

i remember being at the airport, and haveing two limousinses pull up. i was thinkin 'i wonder who the passenger is' only to be welcomed by the chaeuffer.

there are alot of theme parks there, but be cauttious because one or more them is very poorly maintained (accidents occur often).

there's this place called a je ju bung or sometihng, basically a public bath/pool/slepeing area..

it really is kinda weird.
you can stay there as long as u want, u get uniforms, lockers, there's a pool/spa there, sauna, computers, libary, sleeping area.

i honestly didnt like it, the bed's were just stone!!.

oh yeah, street stalls are quite good..

i wish i was allowed to travel freely when i was there, i miss it. i was only there for 10 days, which was a waste of airfare!!
