Im looking for a frequancy scanner that can pick up on very high and low frequancies. I dont really know much about wireless communcations. But I am sure that one of you will be able to help. I need a scanner that can pick up walky talkies, cellphones, cordless phones, police and ambulance. I'd also be interested in learning about any other related topics such as scrambling frequancies aswell. thanks.

Guys there are literally dozens of base, handheld and PC receivers that are capable of such wide band coverage.

What you buy will just depends on how much cash you want to invest.

But here is one of my favourite all mode wide band receivers...It covers 100kHz to 2000MHz

Icom IC-R8500

Don't even get me started on wide band transmitters like the Yaesu 1000MP or i will be forced to make a post in S&A about how horny it makes me http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif)

Now thats a radio

Seriously though, you can get cheap scanners like the Uniden 780XLT with trunk tracking that cover 25-540MHz then 806-1300MHz. They pick up CB in AM/FM, cordless phones, police, ambulance, air, marine etc.

They are a great unit and i got mine for $600au which would equate to about $350us.

There is a hell of a lot of diferent models that can tx/rx over a very wide range, but for what you described i suggest the vx-1r by yaesu, the transmitting power(tx) isn't very strong but its good enough to do some pretty wicked shit. quote: Seriously though, you can get cheap scanners like the Uniden 780XLT with trunk tracking that cover 25-540MHz then 806-1300MHz.
