I think they are extremely talented and really good song writers but i dont think there the best band on earth. I'll leave that title to like pink floyd or the beatles, they have so much more thought put into there songs. especially the beatles.
I don't like them at all.
So no, I don't think they're the best band on the earth.
Tool probably is the best band in recent history.
Aenima and Lateralus are two of the most thought out and intensely trance like albums ever created

Tool is alright, but I think theyre over rated. Alot of their songs just drone on and on and get painfully repetitive. Like that song schism. It's the same bass riff over and over for like 4 minutes straight. Theyre ok but far from greatest band ever. That's clearly the Violent Femmes.

I'm gonna have to say that Tool is my favorite band.
Closely followed by Led Zeppelin and Nine Inch Nails.
Call me crazy, I love Led Zep, don't get me wrong, but I do like Tool a little bit more.
Maybe that's cuz I've witnessed their amazing live performance, man they are fucking awesome.

I doint like tool at all, there music seems to be boric and just dosent speak or stand out at me at all. I can barely listen to one of their complete songs, and no they are nowhere near the best band on earth, they arent even that good...
You say they arent that good, well... You may not like Tool, but they are fucking talented as hell.

Their songs are so well thought out... you don't know what you are saying. Have you ever looked into the meaning of one of their songs? Why don't you try it sometime. Until you have done your research, shut up. Tool IS the best band on Earth. I don't know why people think they need to reserve that title for older bands (Pink Floyd). Anyone can have that title, an I think Tool deserves it.

Best band in the world? No such thing. Everyone has different opinions. But yes, I enjoy Tool very much.

here's a question for you, is it just me or does a perfect circle (lead singer of tools other band) suck. how can something so good become something so bad. i mean audioslave isn't really bad although there not in the same galaxy as rage or soundgarden it just doesn't make sence.
tool greatest band TODAY.....maybe, possible. Definetly best band in their genre and it's kinda impossible to compare music that is really far apart in spectrums. I smoke the grass and i love tool. Kinda hate their name though, and idk why.
See, this is why so many Tool fans annoy me.

Rather than let yourself believe someone might actually just have different tastes in music than you...you believe that they just don't understand the music. Ok, so ____ Tool song is about child abuse? BIG FUCKING DEAL. If someone doesn't like the music, you think lyrics, that are so vague that people have to sit on their asses and eat a bag of mushrooms to "properly" interpret them, means that someone who doesn't like the music is going to magically like them now? I don't see how.
And I also don't know how people can stick to the "But they're so talented!" thing. ESPECIALLY in prog-rock or prog-metal (both places that they try to put Tool in). Sure, perhaps they are. But their "talent" is absolutely nothing compared to some of the more original prog rock bands of 25 years ago (Yes, Rush). I've never heard anything musically (to show the bands talent) that impressed me, except for maybe some fast drumwork...although I don't know why that should impress me (but everyone thinks it should).
The people that replied to this post saying that tool doesn't have any talent need to check themselves into a mental hospital. I wanna see one of you make a 14 min song. You might not like them but you cant say they are not talented. I think they are talented because of the work they put into there albums and videos. They just don't release an album every year to make there fans happy or to make more money. They work on there music unlike bands that get pushed down are throat by the media look at metallica there new song is repetitive and I think it blows but im not saying there not talented every band has made bad songs not every song can be perfect. You got to give tool credit where credit is needed and they definitely need it.

Give me some fucking examples!!
Find me a guitar part that requires talent, find me some difficult basses riffs. Find me some complex melodic ideas.
And if you haven't noticed, most Tool songs could be shortened into just a few minutes. Its just the same damn things over and over again.

Grab the string tribute to tool CD, its someof the tool songs translated into a Stringed intstrument band. It's REALLY good cause there songs sound perfect.
Dj how many tool songs have you heard you probably havent heard many. Ill give you some examples now:
Opiate:
Sweat, Opiate
Salival:
Third Eye, Pushit, Merkaba, No Quarter
Aenima:
Eulogy,H.,Hooker With A Penis,Jimmy,Third Eye
Lateralus:
Parabol,Parabola,Ticks & Leeches,Disposition,Reflection,Triad,
Undertow:
Swamp Song,Undertow,4 Degrees,Flood
how many of those songs have you heard if you have heard all of them and still think they arent talented you must not know what talent is.
I've heard many of those.
They all sound very similiar, not very much variety there.
Give me gutiar parts, bass transcriptions...something that makes me think "these guys are talented musicians!".
all there songs sound alike? download reflection it dosnt sound anything alike any of there songs

Its not that hard, I can just do what Tool often does and repeat each riff for 5 or 6 minutes before going to the next riff.

Dante's Inferno by Iced Earth is 16 minutes long and doesn't drag on.

To me tool is more about the composition, the lyrics and the atmosphere this creates as apposed to the technical prowess.Their definatly one of my favorites bands of all time. As to being the greatest band on earth.... thats a petty big claim. Did i miss the election which posted you as musical spokesman for the earth? Like anything artisitic music is a very personal thing and is quite subjective, one's trash is another's treasure.Tool's music appeals me but obviously not everyone else.Doesn't mean their opinion is any less valid than mine.*shrug*

Uh-huh, so you're basing their talent on the length of songs, eh? So, in that case, the Grateful Dead would probably be one of the most talented bands ever, seeing as how some of their songs can last for like 25-35 minutes, but you don't see them getting their credit where credit is needed.
But that's all beside the point.
My point is that you have no idea what you're talking about, I'm not trying say that the kind of music you like is bad, I'm saying you don't have any musical knowledge at all.
I've heard plenty of different Tool songs, and they were boring as hell, they all sounded the same. It's like the old 'tallica (ask djsam about that, there was quite a big discussion about the old metallica and the new metallica a short while back).
Just, don't talk out of your ass Toolish.

Not Child abuse. One of them is about Getting Anally raped (prison sex), and one is about Acheiving Uber-Human bodies (46&2) but I don't recall any child abuse songs.

For djsam.
It's not just Tool fans that are shitty. All immature fans of anyone are like that. Personally, I love Tool. To me, they are the best band on earth. I don't give two shits or a fuck if you hate them. For sake of the topic, I will give you reasons why I love them. Also, I'm not trying to change your mind about them. Look at their music and listen to it. They write things and play them in the strangest ways. They do things that make music theory people think. Also, the mood that they set is so good. I don't do any drugs, and I feel that I go into a trance just listening to them. You don't need to eat shrooms or ponder their shit to figure it out. You just know. Besides all that, they fueled some of my hatred towards stupidity.
Thinking back on what I just wrote, I can't remember much of it. If it doesn't make sense, disregard it.

Um, no they don't.
George Bellas, now he does some unusual stuff. But thats about it.
Hell yeah TOOL rock, my fave band without a doubt! Saw them live at Ozzfest 2001 and 2002 UK and there just fuckin amazing live !!

I like Tool......they have a unique style in the way the compose music.....don't get me wrong there are many other bands that probably do the same......but Tool has managed to get the attention of many people and be known as an icon in the music industry....Their lyrics are superb and actually require a little thinking over....and their melodies are unique/trancelike....In my opinion they are a very good band.....and are probably one of the top 10....but far from the best on earth....

TOOL is GREAT. I have all their c.d.'s, but, best band ever? No. Led Zeplin. They paved the rock and roll way for bands like Tool.

Practically everyone I know who ever liked Tool grow out of them and found far better quality bands in the same genre. And personally I see nothing special about them, deep lyrics...wow even Avril Lavigne is getting some of them these days. Long songs...go to the opera if you wanna get bored.
